Statement Issued by EDBA Members & Board of Directors
The Mission Statement of the
Eastern Dive Boat Association (EDBA,) States that the association
endeavors to “provide cooperation among all dive boats.”
The Eastern Dive Boat Association further believes that membership in the
association carries with it a responsibility to ensure safety for its
existing members as well as the responsibility for the safety of those who
travel on the vessels of the association members. This responsibility
necessitates that we follow procedures that will attempt to ensure this
safety.
In the interest of sustaining these premises, this responsibility compels
us to address the questions of killing of birds at sea in violation of
United States Code 16 USC-703, and the use of firearms on dive boats while
they are at sea with dive passengers.
The Eastern Dive Boat Association deems the illegal or unsafe use of
Firearms unacceptable. If
such weapons are used by dive boat operators and/or passengers on dive
boats in an illegal or unsafe manner, we consider this practice to be a
danger to divers in the water, divers preparing to enter the water,
passengers on the vessel, other boats in the vicinity and possibly other
innocent and uninvolved persons afloat or ashore.
Should the code of behavior exemplified in our criteria for
membership be compromised by a member, the Executive Board of the EDBA
shall handle a formal complaint according to the provisions established by
our constitution.
It is the desire of the Eastern Dive Boat Association to promote safe,
enjoyable and responsible diving opportunities.
